Annoying 2015 ads- What's trending (1)

It’s safe to assume that today almost every Indian urban household has a television set; some in fact have more than one. While television sets were meant for catching up with our favourite series, news, movies, music and much more; what came along as an unnecessary addition were the advertisements also popularly known as Television Commercials (TVCs).

There are advertisements that really grab our undivided attention (remember Seagram’s men will be men series of TVCs?). And there are some that just make us cringe and think why they exist in the first place. They are those ads that have the right mixture of everything wrong; the wrong music, the wrong idea and the wrong message. Here are five such ads from 2015 that usually make us press the mute button faster than a rat chases cheese.

#1 Snickers ad featuring Sonam Kapoor

We understand the tag line ‘Hunger achhe achhon ko badal deta hai’, it isn’t just right on point but also something that people experience on a daily basis. However, turning into a “heroine” when someone is hungry is plain silly. Did you know that ad is actually only 30 seconds in duration? Always thought it was much longer!

#2 Airtel 4G challenge ad and all their related ads

Sasha Chettri (the lead actor) might have made it big with the Airtel 4G ads series but the ad itself is just annoying. First, no one takes a 4G challenge against another connection that is clearly not 4G. Second, do people seriously root for parties in these supposed challenges? Moreover, we still can’t get over what they did to A.R. Rahman’s iconic Airtel ringtone in these series of ads.

#3 Idea share the Internet

Giving competition to Airtel in the most annoying ad of 2015 category is Idea. “India Share Karega… India Care Karega…” is fine but are we actually serious about sharing 100 MB Internet to help Ram’s kid with his Science project? And for all the other things that are showed in that ad. How much can we actually help someone with mobile Internet anyway?

#4 Mentos TVC – TV vs Padhai

Mentos came up with this genius #DimaagKiBatti way of asking your mom to let you watch TV while studying. All you need to do is make her have some Mentos! *slow clapping*. While we don’t think this idea really works for moms or for anyone, what it does is make your ad land a spot on the most annoying ads of 2015.

#5 Amazon’s kya pehnu ad

It’s amazing that Amazon has clothes, and that they are offering “har confusion ka stylish solution” but do we really have to listen to someone talking about how their wardrobe has only “minis” when they need clothes for a wedding? And THAT jingle, change it already!
