The Formula One world champion has done it again, before you jump to conclusions, what we’re talking about here is that he has managed to grab the attention from the Police yet again for something you would think is not that serious. Recently, Lewis Hamilton was investigated by the police after his Snapchat video of riding his Harley Davidson on the roads of Auckland, surfaced on the Internet.
Well, it is a serious issue in New Zealand because since 2009, it has been deemed illegal to use your mobile phones while you’re on the road, driving. The video shows Hamilton panning as he tries to show what’s happening around him while he is riding.
The investigation was being handled by the local police of Auckland and in the end; they let the three-time F1 champion walk free because there wasn’t sufficient evidence available against him. The police spokesperson said, “The video footage available does not provide us with sufficient enough evidence that an offence has occurred.” The spokesperson added, “We would like to reiterate our earlier statements that police take the issue of mobile phone use whilst driving or riding very seriously. It is a significant distraction and a major risk to all road users.”
Before this, Lewis was fined around £300 after he performed an illegal ‘burnout’ in 2010 before the Australian Grand Prix. “I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police,” the champion said in his statement after the incident. And ended by adding, “What I did was silly and I want to apologise for it.”
